Have Your Say on the Future of Hinchingbrooke Hospital

Hinchingbrooke Hospital is set to be rebuilt as part of the national New Hospital Programme, creating a modern healthcare facility for future generations. The Trust is now seeking feedback from patients, carers, staff, and local communities to help shape how the new hospital looks, feels, and supports those who use it.

Residents, patients, carers, staff, and local organisations are being invited to help shape the future of Hinchingbrooke Hospital as plans move forward for a brand-new hospital on the existing site.

The redevelopment forms part of the national New Hospital Programme and represents one of the largest investments in local healthcare for a generation. The new hospital is expected to open by the end of 2032 and will continue to provide key services for local communities, including emergency and maternity care.

A Hospital Designed Around Patients and Communities

For more than 40 years, Hinchingbrooke Hospital has played an important role in the lives of people across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. The new hospital aims to build on that legacy by creating a modern, state-of-the-art environment designed around the needs of patients, families, carers, and staff.

The Trust is now asking local people to share their views on how the new hospital should look and feel.

What Are They Asking About?

At this stage, the focus is on understanding what matters most to patients, visitors, and the wider community.

Feedback is being sought on topics including:

  • How people arrive at and navigate the hospital site.
  • How hospital environments can feel welcoming, safe, and accessible.
  • The use of digital technology to support care and improve patient experiences.
  • How the hospital can remain connected to the communities it serves.
  • How single inpatient rooms can be designed to help patients feel both comfortable and connected.

The move to single rooms for all inpatients is a national requirement, and the Trust is particularly interested in hearing views on how this can best support patients and their families.

Why Your Voice Matters

Hospitals are more than buildings. The way services are designed, how people move through spaces, and how patients experience care can all have a significant impact on health and wellbeing.

This engagement provides an opportunity for local people to influence the design of a hospital that will serve communities for decades to come.

At Healthwatch Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, we encourage people to take part in opportunities like this to ensure that patient and public voices help shape future health services.

Get Involved

The public engagement campaign is open until Sunday 16 August 2026.

Whether you are a patient, carer, visitor, staff member, local resident, or business owner, the Trust would like to hear your views.

By taking part, you can help shape a hospital designed around the needs of the people who will use it for generations to come.
