Autumn Budget 2025 – What It Means for Local People

Find out what the Autumn Budget 2025 means for people in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, including changes to NHS costs, new investment in technology and our concerns about the lack of action on social care.
Rachel Reeves 2025 Budget

The Government has announced its Autumn Budget. Some of the changes may help improve NHS services, but we are concerned that social care has again been left out. People across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough tell us every day about long waits, difficulties getting support, and the pressure this puts on families.

Below is a simple breakdown of the most important points for our community.

Key announcements affecting health and care

  • NHS prescription charges will stay the same from April 2026.
  • £300 million of new NHS technology investment is planned. This could help staff work more efficiently and make services easier to access.
  • New Neighbourhood Health Centres are planned across England, with early sites already named. We do not yet know when, or if, our area will get one.
  • The overall NHS budget will increase, though people locally still report long waits for GP, hospital, dental and mental health services.

Concerns about social care
We are worried that social care was not included in this Budget.

People tell us they face long delays for assessments, struggle to arrange care at home, and often feel they have no support while waiting. Without proper investment in social care, pressure on local NHS services will continue to grow.

What happens next
We will continue to look closely at how these national decisions affect people in our area. As more information becomes available, we will share updates on what these changes mean for local services.

If you have recently used a health or care service, good or bad, your experience can help make services better.
