More NHS Dental Appointments for Urgent Care – A Welcome Step Forward

Healthwatch Cambridgeshire and Peterborough welcomes the news that over 14,000 additional NHS dental appointments are now available locally for people who need urgent care.

The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Integrated Care Board (CPICB) has worked with local dental providers to boost urgent care availability, aiming to improve access for those who need it most.

At Healthwatch Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, we welcome this step forward. It directly supports the recommendations we made in our 2019 report, Thousands denied dental care in Peterborough, which highlighted how difficult it had become for local people—particularly in Peterborough and Wisbech—to access timely, affordable dental treatment.

Jess Slater (she/her), Chief Executive Officer, said:
“Back in 2018, this report exposed the real difficulties people in Peterborough and Wisbech faced in accessing NHS dental care. The voices we heard, particularly from those struggling to get urgent treatment, made clear that action was needed. Since then, we have remained committed to raising these issues on behalf of local people, ensuring that their experiences continue to inform and shape improvements to dental services.”

If you need urgent dental care, call NHS 111 or contact your regular dental practice if you're already a patient.
